Join us in this hike to the “Mountains of the Moon” and explore La Chorrera natural park, where Colombia’s tallest waterfall is waiting. Explore with us this amazing natural park, and learn about the peculiarities of these cloud forests. Thick with vegetation and often mist, these forests are filled with alluring mystique, and walking through them is a unique experience.
Inside, we’ll visit two of the parks waterfalls. First, the smaller one, El Chiflón, is 55 meters tall and adventurers often rappel down its icy fall. Would you? As we move deeper into the natural park, you’ll learn all about the local ecosystem. These mist-filled forest have a long and conflict-ridden history worth listening. Along the way, we’ll visit Choachi’s other curiosties, like the “monkey stone” stalagmites.
Deeper inside the park, you’ll find La Chorrera: a tiered or stepped 590 meters tall waterfall. This one you can’t rappel down, but you can marvel at! Take in the mighty sight and rest your feet before taking the trail back out of the park. The hike ends at the town of Choachí, where you’ll be able to join in with some of the locals for a fantastic local lunch before heading back to Bogotá.
This hike is perfect for hikers with some experience. Steep slopes, slippery slopes, rocky slopes. All kinds of slopes! Perfect for the surefooted and gutsy and thos eager to do some exercise. Remember to bring comfortable hiking shoes and clothing, and a cane if you need it. Also, please have in mind that we are several hundred meters above sea level, so breathing can prove difficult to some.
