This is a guest post by Živa M. Brecelj, a Slovenian journalist and content writer at Bike Tour Ljubljana.
When I pinned on my next destination on the map, I thought I knew what to expect from a central European capital. Then I actually got there. I found myself in a beautiful, green, vivid most of all lovely Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana and I was like “wow”.
Ljubljana is one of the cleanest and loveliest cities I’ve ever seen. The people are sitting in the bars and by the river, Ljubljanica banks, and they all seem happy and relaxed. Well, that was the impression I got by strolling around to get familiar with the location. I sat down like a local and googled for a guided tour. I decided to take a guided tour of Ljubljana by bike. I thought of a combination of healthy exercise, sightseeing, and making new friends.
Green capital of Europe
Due to its small size, you might think Ljubljana doesn’t have much to offer. That’s totally not true. During my bike tour, I didn’t only have a chance to see the highlights of the center, but also the secluded parts of the city, romantic riverbanks, hidden backstreets, peaceful parks, and much more. For its eco-oriented attitude and look I’m sure you’ll be able to agree later on that Ljubljana deserved the award for Green Capital of Europe 2016.
Ljubljana seems a perfect city for sightseeing on bikes because of its flat terrain and cycling culture. So, I tried out an eco-friendly, active, safe, and fun way to explore all city highlights. If you are thinking about visiting Ljubljana let a local English speaking guide take you on a little adventure and introduce you to the story behind the city within just a few hours.
I would recommend signing up for the tour online to book your bike ride. During the four hours tour, you will have enough breaks to take pictures while listening to interesting and rich stories your guide will tell you on the way. The tour is a great experience also for families who would like to have some fun during the visit to Ljubljana.
I’m happy to have experienced a relaxed, vibrant, and fun way through the scenes and rich cultural heritage of Ljubljana. Besides beautiful sights, we also got involved in sharing intriguing stories of the past, as well as the up-to-date happening of the city. And not to forget: our guide prepared drinks and local snacks for us!
